Yet another Sherlock Holmes rumor about Watson

By DonnaK

DonnaK:  Variety reported late last night that Jude Law is in serious talks to play the role of Watson in Guy Ritchie’s upcoming Cherlock Holmes film, which of course stars the wondrous Robert Downey Jr. in the titular role:

Jude Law is negotiating to join Robert Downey Jr. in “Sherlock Holmes,” the drama that Guy Ritchie will direct for Warner Bros. and Village Roadshow Pictures.

Law is expected to close a deal shortly to play Watson, the super-sleuth’s sidekick.

Joel Silver, Lionel Wigram, Susan Downey and Dan Lin are producing. Production begins early next month in London.

The film will incorporate the classic tales written by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, as well as the comic book “Sherlock Holmes.” Studio is still casting some of the principal roles, including the villain, Blackwood.

Jude Law.... yummy. I can see it working better than most of the names batted around… although I still yearn to see Crowe in that role. The one thing that’s throwing me off. Blackwood is the villain? I though it was to be Moriarty? Things that make you go hmmmmm....

So… Jude Law. What do you guys think? Yes? No? Maybe?

Sorry, but I’ve always pictured Watson as an older guy, partly because that is how he was portrayed in the original stories. Holmes was about twenty-five when he and Watson first met (I think).
