Weekend Foodies post: Soft foods

JimK:  The reason I have not posted about food in a couple of weeks is the teefs.  My temp crowns are preventing me from eating anything firmer than roasted chicken breast.  I’ve been living primarily on a diet of instant farina, cheese, rice, chicken and steamed veg. Sometimes the rice and veg are stir-fried into some form of vaguely Asian-like flavor, which is interesting.  I also tried these Thai rice noodles (vermicelli actually, just made of rice) but they sort of stayed gummy even when overcooked, and I just didn’t like them.  But.

In the last week I have discovered...oh god I cannot even bring myself to say it...*deep breath*...I have discovered that I like veggie burgers.  They taste nothing even remotely like the meat they are supposed to replace, but...I like them.  And they are soft.

If I start wanting to drive a Prius and talking about how patchouli is a misunderstood scent, I grant permission to any and all readers of this blog to find me in person and kick the hippie right out of my ass.

Anyway, the point: Got any soft foods that aren’t rice?  Some crazy, tasty, flavorful thing my brain just hasn’t thought of?  Old secret family “Oww mah dentures be hurtin’” recipe you got from your old Nanna?  Anything?  Just don’t say Jello.  I know about Jello.  wink

October first cannot come fast enough.  I WANT MY METAL TEETH DAMMIT.  I am going to destroy some grill-scorched cow flesh just as soon as my metal teeth heal up or become self aware and start directing my actions or whatever it is that they do.

what’s wrong with a Prius?  .. actually there is a lot wrong with the execution of the concept but hybrids in general is a great idea.  I have been doing research on a electric conversion and if only I had the cash right now I would so do it. ... veggie burgers OTOH .. :((

This tooth thing isn’t a new diet fad is it?  I have a feeling you are going to lose even more weight because of it! wink

Smoothies are soft and cold but not all that comforting.  I make mine with non fat home made plain yogurt and frozen fruits.  At least it helps to satisfy a sweet tooth.  Tofu is also soft but generally lacks taste.  Have you thought about making tasty vegetable purees or appreciating hummus?

PS thanks for posting about grilled pizza earlier, Darrell and I are now hooked!!

Not if you do it right.  Spicy food might not be great for sore teeth either, though.  I love this dish and eat it all the time here in China.  Never thought tofu would be one of my favorite foods.

I could eat a lot of mashed potatoes.  I’m sure you’ve done that though.  Try roasted garlic or pesto versions.  Lots of potato dishes you could try, in fact.  Roasted with some rosemary and/or thyme.

Toss some red bell peppers on the grill with a little olive oil and salt to liven up anything--like those veggie burgers.
