DonnaK:  SYTYCD had one hell of a season this year, and the final four danced their hearts out in the final last night. Everybody had to dance with everybody else, with a big group number at the end no less. I can’t even imagine how exhausting performing of all that must have been for those guys. Just… wow. Picking just one dance I thought was more awesome than the rest was honestly pretty impossible. They were all amazing, all passionate, and all truly awesome. However, gun to my head, I would have to point to one that was just more impressive than anything else.

That dance would be the Russian Tropac choreographed by Youri Nelzine to “The Nutcracker Suite” and performed by the two boys, Twitch and Joshua:

Not being familiar with this type of dancing I can’t say that I understood everything I saw. What was terribly clear though was just how difficult and impressive this routine really was. Those jumps! Those swirls! Such power and passion! Watching it again today allowed me to see all the things I was too bowled over to see last night. The true musicality of this number was impressive as all hell. Both Twitch and Joshua have tremendous charisma and it really showed. It was one awesome display of raw strength and talent from these two and thus I have to dub it the MOA “Awesome Dance of the Week” from So You Think You Can Dance.

My honorable mention has got to go to Twitch and Courtney’s work in Tabitha and Napoleon’s hip hop routine to “Church” by T-Pain:

I loved this routine, I really did. It was wonderfully emotional, lyrical, and yet hit hard. Twitch is really a force of nature and Courtney kept up with him pretty damn well. And again, another truly wonderful routine by Napoleon and Tabitha. I really love those guys. My hat’s off to both the dancers and the choreographers for their great work there.

Just as an aside… what was up with that HORRIBLE Mia Michaels group routine at the end? I don’t think I’ve ever seen a routine of her I didn’t really like on some level, but that was just AWFUL. It was everything that is wrong about contemporary dance IMHO, and Nigel was on the verge of even saying that himself I think. Bad, bad, bad I tell you.

When all is said and done I still call Twitch to win the whole thing. I’ll give an outside chance to Katee to win, but I’m sticking to my call from weeks ago. Twitch FTW!

MOA “Awesome Dance of the Week” is out for the season, y0. I’m glad some of you enjoyed this and if you’d like I’ll be happy to do this next season as well.
