Screw it, I’ll speculate: #Dollhouse is cancelled

*UPDATE*

Well, “sources” are telling people that Dollhouse is not canceled. And Tim Minear has an explanation for what the hell Fox is doing with this 13th ep (that Felicia Day was supposed to be in).

Sorry, but my original speculation stands. I think Fox is lying—or just not saying anything—in order to keep what ratings they can for the remainder of the eps.  I predict Dollhouse is done.

Original post:

Yeah, this isn’t good.  I guess Agent Ballard taking another job that could lead to a series is exactly the bad sign I thought it might be.

I was perusing the upcoming schedule notes from FOX, including the series finale of Prison Break on May 15, and I noticed a curious thing.  FOX lists the May 8th episode as Omega, the twelfth episode of Dollhouse, as its season finale.

...

Update 2: (hat tip to Chris in the comments).  Felicia Day who played the heroine in Whedon’s Dr. Horrible and also had a part in the 13th episode said on Twitter that Fox wasn’t airing it.

No one seems to want to say it, but I will: This show is canceled. I have no inside info, and I want to be wrong, but there it is: the show is dead.  This I know. Because the signs all tell me so.

Dear Joss Whedon:

If you ever try to create anothe rtelevision show with the Fox network—and especially if you lie to me and tell me how they;ve changed all the while you are retooling and frantically trying to fix the mess they’ve created by meddling in your show AGAIN—you and me, we’re fucking done professionally. I am sick and tired of both that network and your lying to me to convince me this time will be different.  They. Don’t. Get. You. And. They. Never. Will.

Same goes for you, Tim Minear. Stop taking the short term, high-dollar Fox deals and take something that will let you build a show that lasts past 3, 9 or 12 episodes.

Joss had like one network that came even close to getting him. And that network proceeded to fuck over a lot of his fans and cancel one of his shows too, before ceasing to exist.

Whedon, get with the fucking program. No one who sees which way the wind is blowing is even bothering with the networks anymore. You either wind up canceled, or meddled to pieces, or having your show’s primary sponsor save the day in-universe. (Eureka, by the by, is also in that “possibly canceled” place, and I can’t say I’m sad.)

Say it with me. “Movie channel”. I will buy a subscription to the movie channel package that carries a Joss Whedon show, honest. I will cancel my subscription to Playboy TV to do it, really I will, Joss. Make the show you wanna make. Throw some titties in there, or, y’know, don’t, I don’t mind, but you’d at least have the option of throwing some titties in there if you wanted to really have your little superpowered chick running around beating up grown men while naked, or whatever.

GO SHOWTIME, JOSS.

Rann,I was thinking basic cable or net but i like your idea better. Not just for the possibility of titties but for the far deeper and darker places things get to go on pay cable. Although A&E and FX often get damn close if not a little darker at times.

Gee, absolutely shocking that a show with Whedon, Minear and Dushku, would be cancelled by Fox.  Who could have seen this coming? raspberry

Joss Whedon on Showtime? Sounds like a plan. Back to back with Dexter episodes and my evening is set. I always feel like that guy ripped off my MO, but dammit, ya gotta love him anyway.
