Crowe is playing a second fiddle to Leonardo DiCaprio in Ridley Scott’s new Body of Lies. The trailer seems to make it plain that Crowe is the support and DiCaprio is the star. I think he cares about the roles more than being above the other actors these days. He seems to be growing into his own as a really good actor.
And don’t forget he played second to Pacino in The Insider. I don’t see Crowe as having so much of an ego that he would have any kind of a problem with this at all.

DonnaK: Now, since it’s in The Sun it’s impossible to know how much truth is in this, but the London paper reported today that Russell Crowe has all but taken the role of Dr. Watson in Guy Ritchie’s new Sherlock Holmes movie starring our beloved Robert Downey Jr. as Holmes:
Nay-sayers are already protesting, saying that Crowe might “overpower” RDJ’s star presence in the movie, which I personally think is hogwash. It would take a damn supernova to overpower RDJ in my little fan-girl opinion. Another faction is crying out that Crowe, as a leading man, would never take a “second fiddle” part, which again I think is hogwash. Crowe will take the part if it’s good and well-written - he’s proven that in the past already. Besides, we have no idea how this script is written - Watson could be a major force within it. So… hogwash I say!
Screw the nay-sayers. I think the team of Downey and Crowe with Ritchie at the helm is magic just waiting to happen. Now… what or who do I have to sacrifice to what god in order to make this happen?
*UPDATE*
Aww…it’s not going to happen.
Damn.
