Pay attention, Fox

JimK:  I belong to a secret Fox focus group thing.  I’m probably not even supposed to tell you that.  It’s just a password-protected wensite where sometimes producers and execs ask questions and take polls. Once we got to see 5 minutes of a pilot, and recently the “Needs” episode of Dollhouse was shown about a week early. They asked some questions about it. I missed the whole thing as I hadn’t signed in in a few weeks.

Anyway, when I signed in today I was greeted with a poll.  After voting, this is what I saw:

How’s about them apples, Fox?  Granted the users of the super secret Fox clubhouse are more motivated internet geeks, and therefore likely more drawn to a Terminator or a Whedon joint, but come *on*.  How stupid does an exceuctive have to be to not be able to turn a profit on these two shows?

And yet all signs still point toward cancellation for one or both of these decent shows…one of which was one of the best things on TV this past season and one that is just maybe finding a groove and could easily break out into great TV.

Fox.  If I had a nickel for every time someone uttered or wrote the phrase “Fucking Fox” I would be so rich that I wouldn’t be writing this post right now, I’d be paying a nubile and nude Tahitian girl to do it for me.  In fact I’d never visit this or any other site again. I’d be so rich I could afford to have people print out the entire internet and read it to me on the beach.

Fucking Fox…

If they cancel Sarah Connor I’m going to cry. Seriously. Dollhouse would make me sad, but losing Connor would make me weep like a four year old that lost her dolly. Especially if they get to keep BAG in the cast. Oooof. wink

Ok, Terminator Chronicles I get. But Dollhouse? All you guys do is bitch endlessly about how bad it is.

Also, keep in mind the relative production costs versus ad revenue. “Reality” shows like American Idol are cheap. “Drama” shows are more expensive. Sci-Fi shows with special effects are the most expensive. So they don’t just need good ratings, they need great ratings to be as profitable as a reality show.

I think with Dollhouse some of the people here are hoping that if it survives long enough to be a “proven thing”, the executives will stop meddling constantly with Whedon and it will be allowed to get good.

Eric, in addittion to what Rann said, Dollhouse has gotten a bit better. Less reliance on Eliza (and Echo) to carry whole episodes. That has helped a lot. The show has some potential now. If they keep it they should run a couple of Dollhouse marathons over the summer and promote the crap out of it. That way new viewers could pick it up, maybe. Oh, and also LEAVE JOSS THE FUCK ALONE FOR FIVE MINUTES TOO, AS WELL. wink
