Heroes - “The Eclipse, Part 2”

DonnaK:  First off, huge apologies for how late this post is. I’ve been sick as a dog for nigh on two weeks now and I just couldn’t wrap my head around the concept of forming concrete sentences. So sorry for the delay everyone.

As for this week’s episode of Heroes… well… I truly am at a loss for words. The whole time I was watching “The Eclipse, Part 2” I was assaulted by two concurrent thoughts. The first was “Finally! The show is getting cool again!”. The second was “.... WHAT THE COCK IS THIS FUCKING SHIT?!?!?!?!”. This week was (dare I say it?) a return to form on many fronts… coupled with a huge glaring problem that made all of it worthless. Since I love my Heroes lists so much, I’m going to go ahead and make one of some of the things I really liked about “The Eclipse, Part 2”.
—SYLAR IS BACK!!!! Oh, how I squealed for joy as I watched the lovely evil man slice open Elle’s head! Knowing Kring and his ass-hattery big bad evil Sylar will probably only last for this one, glorious, shining moment, but I can at least now say I saw evil Sylar again. Death to Gabriel… LONG LIVE SYLAR!
—HRG kicking the shit out of Elle and Sylar was a truly beautiful thing. It just goes to show you that you really don’t need powers to be a hero. The entire manhunt and the final showdown with Sylar proves what a bad-ass HRG was and always has been. Lovely bit of TV there.
—Hiro and Ando and the comic shop? GENIUS. Hilarious, good fun in the middle of a pretty serious episode. Seth Green and Breckin Meyer knocked that out of the park and I fully enjoyed every bit of their segments. More like this, please!
—The explanation of Daphene and her condition pre-powers made me want to hit her in the face a lot less. In fact, I’m almost starting to like her a little. At least now we understand a bit more of why she is the way she is, which is only ever a good thing.
—I think Buzzion wins the prize - it looks like Isaac’s drawings always come true, no matter what. I kind of like that, even though it clashes with the other prognosticators on the show. At least the characters on the show have a bible to reference… wish I could say the same for Kring…. :/
—I even felt badly for Mohinder this week. When he made it to Maya’s apartment and suddenly realized his condition was back my heart broke just a little. It was nice to see them re-humanize the monster, even if it was just for a little while.
—Ah, those Petrelli boys. Peter showed he’s a hero, powers be damned, and Nathan once again proved that he’s just a misguided cowardly fool. My TiVo said in the episode description “Nathan makes a shocking decision”. I hate to break it to whoever writes those blurbs but it wasn’t that shocking if you’ve watched a few episodes of the show, Nathan’s character is one of the few that has remained constant so his idiocy came as no surprise at all to me. Nice to know some things don’t get rearranged.

So… this is good, right? Right? I mean… that’s a pretty decent list of good things I have here! This week’s Heroes should have been a home run then, right?

WRONG. Oh, so very wrong. Because no matter how many things Kring got right, that farting assclown can’t seem to wrap his head around the bigger pictures of this series. What am I on about now? Why, the central focus of the last few episodes, of course. I am speaking, of course, of The Eclipse. The event so monumental that it was going to change the heroes forever. Except of course it didn’t.  When the first eclipse happened, everyone’s powers either emerged or became permanent.  Then the second eclipse happened, everyone lost their powers while the sun was blocked… and then they got them back again as soon as daylight hit them.

Ummmmm… WHAT THE FUCK?!?!?! Memo to Tim Kring… you can’t have it both ways, you fucking tool! Either the eclipse has power or it doesn’t. Either it causes events to occur in the bodies of a chosen few or it doesn’t. YOU CANNOT HAVE IT BOTH WAYS. Of course Kring, thinking he’s some kind of super genius, thinks he’s special and he *can* have it both ways. For the last several episodes the show has set up that the eclipse a year ago was the catalyst that brought the various heroes’ powers to the surface and kept them there permanently from that point forward. Of course that’s retconned and full of shit anyway, but those are the current laws that were laid down for the whole of this season. Eclipses cause shifts in powers. That’s the rule.

So can someone please explain to me why this eclipse had no lasting effects on anyone? The effects of eclipses are PERMANENT. This was even touted as being true as far back as season one. But now, suddenly, as soon as the eclipse is over it’s effects are too? WHAT THE COCK IS THIS SHIT?!?!?! It honestly makes no sense and is just a huge slap in the face to the audience. I now really have no reason to believe anything is fixed or true or real or cannon in this show anymore. We as the audience were set up to believe a certain thing was true, even though it went against everything we thought was true before. And so we followed dutifully along, only to get slapped in the face by Kring saying we should never have believed any of this was true and how stupid we were to fall for it. That’s not just sloppy writing, that’s just downright insulting.

This just goes hand in hand with Kring’s recent statements about how the people who watch Heroes in real time as it airs are just idiots and morons. I can’t be assed right now to dig up a link to that piece of buffoonery but I will if asked. Kring just has zero respect for the people who watch his show. Zero. Zip. Nada. Zilch. Squat. None. And you know what? I’m getting tired of taking it. If he doesn’t give a shit about me why should I give a flying fuck about him? Why should I show him any respect if he won’t return the favor? Can’t a girl get a reach-around in this joint? Nope, not from Kring. I’m starting to feel like a mildly abused spouse or a chronic enabler here. I keep forgiving and watching when it’s clear I’m never going to get anything out of this. So why am I still here? Why are any of us?

Our only hope for this show is if someone else can ride in and essentially take Heroes over from Kring and save it. Unless that happens we’re all doomed to chronic disappointment until we all give up and just walk away. I’ve already got one foot out the door… :(

Unfortunately, saving Heroes means that I lost Pushing Daisies…Bryan Fuller might be able to save Heroes, who knows.

Hahahah! I feel that way about Grey’s Anatomy. That show is so ridiculous that it makes me angry, but I can’t stop watching.

Back to Heroes. It was good to see the non-monster Mohinder for a bit. I hated what they did with his character this season and that makeup is disgusting.

Also, Sylar/Elle = VOMIT

Something I realized watching this week’s episode. I’m gonna go out on a limb here but…the point where it seems like show started going downhill was… wait for it… when Thomas Dekker left for Terminator. Seriously Kring, bring back Zach or I refuse to watch another episode!

Yeah, I saw about 5 minutes of it with the wife. We both love gratuitous T&A;, but the stupidity of the show was more than we could bear.
