I’ve been debating seeing it and was really just waiting for a review. I think I’ll check it out this weekend if it’s still playing.
Hey, Hippie… Jim and I reviewed this right when it came out. Did you miss this?
We didn’t slack off *that* much!

Oops, I did. I don’t know how I missed it… hmm
Thanks!
I downlanded it a few weeks back, not too bad, it was better than i expected.
Watching the Asian gal get gutted by the tanker tricks wheel blades was fucked up to say the least!

Gerbera Tetra: Ok, this is a short review of Death Race.
The really short take:
Watch the trailer. You know this formula for action movies, you’ve seen it before. If you like that kind of movie go see this version. It is one of the best executions of the genre you’re going to find in theaters for a while.
The Slightly Longer take, but still short:
Rann and I went to go see this as a Movie Grill lunch thing. From start to finish this movie knew what tropes it was using and was so unashamed of it they actually spoke them out loud. Mind you Death Race is a Pay per View show so.. well the tropes were what they were going for. Fast Cars, Tough Men, Hot Women and lots of the Ultraviolence. They also ran, less overtly all the prison tropes you’d expect. The makers of this movie knew they were making a popcorn summer movie and just ran proudly with it.
What’s odd is it works. The movie is fun, it is schlocky and no one in the theater cared. Hell No!!! We reveled in it like a two bit WWE audience. [on a side note; the final facade of wrestling’s fakery came when they couldn’t even face down a bunch of treehugers for the sake of their WWF logo] There are numerous plot holes or flaws in the script but by the time the really bad one happens it’s so cool you will not care. No really; I dare you to care why the fully armed semi with the tank turret on the back is in the game at all.
It is also Car Wars the movie. It’s got the armor, weapons and driving stunts you’d expect from a game movie [except it’s not really]. It even has some odd game-ism’s build into the race format; you have to run over activators in the tack to turn on offensive or defensive weapons. Sweet cool stuff.
Rating: 7/10
Rann and I might do a dual review later but I wanted to encourage ppl to see this before it’s out of the theaters.
