A little tip for Fallout 3
As being one of those PS3-only types I am not surprised. EA is really stretched thin when it comes to manpower for programmers and they laid off a huge portion of their staff in Chicago which was dedicated to PS3 programming of their cross-system games (for example, Def Jam Icon for PS3 came out of the Chicago studios)
The cell processor is definately a hurdle but not so much as the customizations for each platform. XBox and PC are based on the same physical architecture so it just a matter of different compilers and input commands. PS3 requires a separate development box, compiler, and code structure to really take advantage of the platform. That means more time, money, and PS3 expertise which EA would rather spend on sport titles that they know will be successful.
I am not knocking the decision but just look at GT5 which is coming out of Sony’s own companies. It was supposed to be ready for PS3 launch and only a Prologue version has come out a year later. If it is so complex even for Sony programmers then I can only imagine the absolute nightmare it must be for other companies.
Some of it has to come down to options. The PS3 offers so many you either have to spend a lot of time to take advantage of them all or decide to leave some bells and whistles off. Ergo EA’s across the board decision to do all games in 720 High Def as opposed to 1080. My guess is the level of detail needed for 1080 would require twice as much time to code and design.
Man, I love Red Alert. I actually just bought “Command and Conquer: The First Decade” with the entire series last week. I’m surprised it’s taken this long to get a RTS on the PS3. Still, that’s why I don’t have a console.

JimK: This isn’t good for PS3-only gamers.
I bet it’s because it’s just too hard to program the 360/PC version and the PS3 at the same time. I keep seeing a lot of game programmers talking about how hard it is to program for the Cell processor in the PS3. It may be theoretically more powerful, and be the world’s most fantastic distributed computing platform, but if it’s that hard to make games on it, how was this a smart move by Sony? By the time the world catches up with the Cell, it will be thought of as old and outdated, as we will be on the next-next gen.
I’m not knocking the PS3 as a kick-ass machine. I’m just saying maybe the Cell wasn’t the best decision Sony ever made.
